Effective April 1, 1996, Public Act 160 and Public Act 258 of 2000 created the Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act, commonly referred to as dual enrollment. This law directs school districts to assist students in paying tuition and fees for courses at Michigan public or private colleges or universities. The following are some of the eligibility guidelines/standards:
Eligibility:
Recommended 2.5 GPA or higher. Colleges may impose their own GPA requirements
Obtain a qualifying composite score on one of the following assessments if taking an English or Math course:
PSAT reading 460/math 510
SAT reading 480/math 530
Considerations:
Meet with your counselor or Mrs. Schultz to discuss options
Review course equivalencies to determine if/how the course(s) will transfer to the college you plan to attend after high school (https://www.mitransfer.org/plan)
Dual enrollment classes are on a 4 point scale (if taken for high school credit)
You have to decide whether you are taking the dual enrollment course for:
High School Credit (calculated into the GPA),
On the transcript as credit only (not calculated into the GPA), or
For college credit only
Dual enrollment classes begin your college GPA. This can positively or negatively impact your future depending on your effort and the outcome of this course
Transportation is the responsibility of the student/family
Colleges have various academic calendars and students must attend courses regardless of the differences
WOHS will pay a per course dollar amount toward tuition and mandatory fees. Any outstanding balance with the college is the responsibility of the student/family and between the college and the student/family.
Do not schedule a class during seminar time.
