Newcomer Academic Support is a course for English Learners who have lived in the United States for less than one year and are enrolled in Newcomer ELA. This class provides structured academic support to help students succeed in all of their classes. Students receive guided help with assignments, build study skills, and strengthen their English through reading, writing, speaking, and listening practice. Teachers provide clear routines and targeted support to promote organization, independence, and confidence. Students may take this course for one or two semesters during their first year in U.S. schools. Placement in this course is determined by WIDA English language proficiency scores and teacher recommendation.
